The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBB) last week practiced yoga in the snow-capped mountains of Mount Abigail in Uttarakhand at an altitude of 22,850 feet, ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, the news agency ANI reported. Wearing a red jacket and olive green pants, the video of ITBP troops practicing yoga despite heavy snowfall went viral on social media. The 20-minute yoga session was attended by 14 ITBP members.

“ITBP members have set a new record by practicing yoga at high altitudes. ITBP members practice yoga under the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’ at an altitude of 22,850 feet in the snow near Mount Abigail in Uttarakhand ahead of International Yoga Day 2022 ”, ITBP tweeted, sharing the video.

On June 5, on the occasion of World Environment Day, ITBP troops in Sikkim organized a clean-up drive on Gurudongmar Lake. At an elevation of 5,430 m, the lake is one of the tallest lakes in the world. It is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Mangan District of Sikkim.
Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21st to create awareness in the community about the benefits of yoga and to encourage people to make it a part of life. In December 2014, the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed June 21 as International Yoga Day at the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of this year’s Yoga Day is Yoga for Humanity. Special events for transgender, women, children, and the disabled will also be held this year.
Yoga can play an important role in maintaining physical fitness. Not only physical health but also mental health can be improved by doing yoga. Various sessions and seminars are organized under the auspices of various governments, organizations, and institutions around the world to raise awareness among the people. In India too, various events are organized in connection with the International Yoga Day.
