Bairstow gives credit to Stokes
Jonny Bairstow, after playing a match-winning 136 against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, revealed that he followed the instructions of his captain Ben Stokes to hit the balls and help them score a big total.
On the fifth and final day of the second Test, Ollie Pope (18), Joe Root (3) and Jack Crawley (0) were dismissed early. But, Bairstow scored 136 runs in just 92 balls at a strike rate of around 148. With the help of his batting, the team won the match and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Bairstow hit 14 fours and a partnership with Stokes (75 not out) helped the team win the thrilling Test by five wickets. Bairstow said that it was probably his best century. The 32-year-old has played 85 Tests and scored nine centuries. “The captain’s help helped us score this century. After the early wickets fell early, we helped us carry the innings with the help of the batting. Ben Stokes also played an important role in the match.”
